Why I'm writing here
Hi, I am Lars and welcome to my written podcast.
I'll write something here every week (at least that is my goal). The topics can be pretty much anything I have on my mind, but it is expected to be mostly tech related: software, something I built, something I broke, possibly something that has nothing to do with either. The common thread is that it wouldn't leave me alone.
By day I'm a senior robotics engineer. The rest of the time my partner and I run an LLC and build a handful of SaaS products that people pay money for. I mention it because most of what ends up here spills out of those two activities.
Before my software job came blue-collar work, ten years in the military with many deployments, and then followed by too much university. I've been mingling with and breaking PCs since the early 1990s and made my first website around 2000. I work from the command line; IDEs never clicked, and I in general do not like big software firms. No need to mention, not that I have an RMS altar at my nightstand, but sometimes I wish I had.
Big O doesn't impress me. I like code and systems that do one thing well, fail fast, have shallow indentation, and that you can either hit with a hammer or sometimes use as one.
There will inevitably be a lot about LLMs, especially agentic coding. Not because I'm a scientist who understands the moving parts, but simply because I spend too many hours each day inside these tools, across several providers, open-weight models, and different harnesses, some of it self-hosted. Opinions are inevitable after that much time together.
That's the setup. Next post will be about something narrower.
